Grammy Awards Red carpet
Handbag designer, Mercedes Brunelli at the 61st Grammy Awards

A few weeks ago, handbag designer, Mercedes Brunelli stood as a vision of elegance in a custom YaviReyes gown on the red carpet. The event took place during the 61st Grammy Awards, in which Dolly Parton was the Musicares Person of the Year. The award honors a recording artist who has made important contributions to music and philanthropy.

The YaviReyes gown symbolizes passion and courage, the idea of a red lace and silk chiffon gown bloomed. Yves Saint Laurent once said, "What's important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it." Mercedes's passion and courage to go after her dreams have made her an unstoppable force. Her custom "wearable art clutches" are not only statement pieces but represent her love for fashion and art.

She is all the inspiration needed.

Designing and making this gown for Mercedes was a significant moment. The idea was to create a silhouette composed of two different elements that as one would echo vibrant elegance. Two striking textures became the perfect alchemy. Touches of iridescent crystals on 3-D sculpted lace motifs adorned the shoulders. Throughout the bodice, lace was strategically hand-sewn to mesh creating an unfinished illusion puzzle. While the top was all about coarse textures the bottom of the gown was all about femininity. A silk chiffon skirt highlighted its versatility to change colors with fluidity as Mercedes moved through the event. The finishing touch, a sparkly, encrusted crystal belt in different shades of red with hints of silver. It was the perfect visual to unite and separate.
